That “summer” in November is probably one of the best experiences we can relish in. Being able to wear shorts, go for a bike ride while the colours have changed and leaves fall is absolutely exhilarating…
Its really important to tell people that you love, admire and appreciate them when you get the chance. I know that sounds so obvious but I work part time at a funeral home and it is without question, the one thing the living regret not doing, regarding the deceased.
And as a follow up to that—- Gratitude gets mentioned regularly at these funerals—-which is wonderful practice and sentiment. I guess the question I have is, what exactly are we grateful for and who or what are we expressing it to?
Heard a great quote this week from Ron Rolheiser—- “the world takes our breath away, just as the author of that breath allows us to breathe”…. So which is more impressive?
Seeing God for what he is as opposed to what I think He is a life long struggle.
Everyone should volunteer at a food bank at least once but likely more regularly. You get way more out of the experience than what you put in.
God has killed the “fattened calf” too many times in my life. I have to wonder if I’ve run my limit on banquets.
I enjoy silence and solitude more than noise and constant activity but if silence “is the language of God”, then I fear I’m an illiterate. I’ll need to sit with this one a bit longer.
Whether we like it or not, we all worship something. Everyday you choose to “bend a knee” to someone or something and if you don’t know that, then you’re not paying close enough attention.
I think that breakfast has become my most favourite meal of the day. My home made, almond milk latte and a soft boiled egg with lightly buttered toast is absolute paradise defined.
Another great quote: “It is an acid test of a man. For a hundred men who can stand adversity, only one can stand prosperity. Prosperity can so very easily make a man arrogant, proud and self satisfied. It takes a really big and good man to bear it worthily…” William Barclay who may have quoted Thomas Carlyle
And with that quote in mind, another one to ponder…”Any friend can share your pain and sorrow but it takes a true friend to share your joys and successes…”
Hitting a golf ball may be one of the more satisfying and frustrating things to experience. If you’ve played, you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t you might want to pass on trying.
If one of the fruits of the spirit is patience then I’d say its still on my PDP (personal development plan). I think I’ve moved from “falling well short of expectations” to “needs improvement”. It is moving in the right direction.
That my Thursday morning men’s bible study group, is a special group of men. They are a beacon of wisdom, support and confidence in my life. My faith is enhanced because of them.
Our lives are not one act plays. There is a story evolving and whether we can make sense of it or not shouldn’t matter. In the midst of chaos or rest, God is at work. I think I like believing that.
