For the questions nobody warned you about…

There is a season that arrives for many men somewhere in their fifties or sixties that nobody really prepares you for. The career that defined you begins to wind down—or stops abruptly— and what is left in the silence is a set of questions that the working years never had time for.

Who am I without the title? What is this season actually for? Why is the silence so impossibly loud?

This site grew out of those questions. Not because I have answers to them— I’m still working through most of them myself— but because I’ve found that naming them honestly, in the company of others who are asking the same, matters more than I had expected.

You’ll find poems here, honest reflections and longer pieces that explore the journey towards that transition. There are identity questions, times in solitude and the slow work of figuring what’s next. My own anchor has been my faith— with all of its own struggles and joys. That thread will run through much of what I write. But you don’t need to share in it to find something useful here.

You just need to be willing to sit with the questions.

Pull up a seat and stay a while.‍ ‍

And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.

1 Kings 19:12
