I Betray…

So I’ve always liked rhymes. For whatever reason, they seem to stick with me and I have little trouble in putting them together. Ask any of our now 3 adult children and they’ll roll their eyes in mock agony to the countless little tunes that I’d riff off to celebrate milestones, quirks or special moments…or to just tease. (Today is The First Day…. and Story of My Line are a couple of my favourites)
Rhyming helps me to convey things, to put thoughts in order. I like the spurts that words can create. Short, sometimes terse, direct and to the point. Other times longer, lingering. Regardless, you’ll see rhyming poems a fair amount here.

Lord God you know I’ll betray you

At once, I’ll start my scheme

Expressing pious expressions

Hiding thoughts so deep obscene

I’m bent on doing right Lord

But it’s still my path, my way

And deep below the surface

Lies the stew of rot’s decay

A dual personality

Split and broken from the start

Filled with smiles and Bible verses

Conceals a cheating heart

You must get so frustrated

With the constant, churning lies

To move from bended knee

Straight through to boastful pride

But I’ll draw on your solemn promise

From my faithless, soily soul

Gods Grace clears all betrayal

And returns a heart to whole

To meet another day Lord

These failing weary feet

That you trust with love and patience

To make your plans complete

I’ll plead for loving mercy

For redemption yet once more

I’ll crawl back on the altar

Flawed faith again restored
