Thrashing at Grace…

This is a poem of affirmation and encouragement in the face of constant failing. Too often I’ve tumbled down the path of self reliance. Its essentially a default mode for me and I think for many of us—- particularly in the West. We live in a culture of self reliance and independence and it’s been championed for a long time. Look at it as means of formation, even worship. But there is another way….

Struggles on the promise that He knows best

Restlessness that stirs with a heart of unrest

Have faith! is the claim, the counter to all doubt

Thrash at such notions, worries swirl all about

Kneel to the offer of a peace that transcends

Against man made efforts as a daily depend

Stubborn with hardening, a wall held so firm

Dawning recognition that pride has run its turn

Arms held wide open, inner prodigal take step

Yield now and beckon, a relief from all debt

Rest troubled wanderer, take pause, be at ease

Meander no more, sit quiet in Gods peace.
